RSAA 2017 will be the fourth biennial conference of the Romantic Studies Association of Australasia. As the major professional event for Romanticists in the Asia-Pacific region, the conference is literary in focus, but also includes attention to a range of disciplinary perspectives. Because of the organization’s regional focus, and the research being undertaken on Romanticism in the Asia-Pacific region, we often have papers presented on the afterlife of Romanticism in Asian or Pacific countries. We intend to devote a session to 1817. The conference as a whole, and this session in particular, are affiliated with Romantic Bicentennials (#Romantics200).

The plenary speakers are Celeste Langan (Berkeley) and Gillian Russell (Melbourne). Confirmed speakers include Nicholas Roe (St Andrews), Peter Otto (Melbourne), Judith Pascoe (Iowa), Porscha Fermanis (University College Dublin), and Alan Bewell (Toronto).
